A girl of 6 years old fell ill with diphtheria and died on the 3rd day of asphyxiation. At autopsy, the mucous membrane of the trachea and bronchi is thickened, swollen, dull, covered with grayish films that are easily separated. Morphological changes indicate the form of inflammation
