A 70-year-old patient who suffered from chronic coronary artery disease was treated with a coronary artery. In the study of the damaged artery, a sharp sclerosis of its intima was found. Fibrin convolutions with platelets, erythrocytes and leukocytes were found in the constricted lumen of the artery, replaced over a considerable distance by connective tissue with cracks lined with endothelium and filled with erythrocytes.
